The dovetail is probably the most recognizable of all woodworking joints. A dovetail joint is self-aligning and interlocking. There are numerous versions of the dovetail joint, including half blind dovetails, through dovetails, mitered dovetails and sliding dovetails. All of these variations are common in casework and drawer construction. A single dovetail bit can make almost any kind of dovetail, depending on the desired size. You'll need a jig to make most dovetail joints, as well as a guide bushing for your router. Check the instructions with your dovetail jig to select a bit with the appropriate angle, which will usually be somewhere between 7 and 14 degrees.

This dovetail bit has a cutting diameter of 1/2", and angle of 1° and a cutting height of 1/2". The bearing on the shank is 1/2" in diameter and the shank is 1/4" in diameter.

I liked it, it's very nice. But when you join two boards, you have to work hard to make sure there is no height.

Used for knoty pine shaker doors and the cuts came out perfect.

Good quality

I bought this to use with the Micro Jig dovetail clamps. I thought my clamps were not working so well when I used my existing dovetail bit but when I used this bit, which definitely matches the specs for the clamps, the dove tail clamps worked perfect. Probably have to buy some more of those now.

I needed to cut in a spline at the end of our hardwood floor to accept a bull nose trim board. Most router bits I found have the bearing on the bottom which limits how close to the floor you can get. With the bearing on the top I'm able to adjust the router depth all the way to the floor if need be. Great item!!
