To get a smooth finish in hard plastics like acrylic with your CNC router, use a low helix spiral end mill. The modified cutter angle produces a better finish in plastics than standard spiral bits. Downcut bits pull chips downward, producing a clean top edge in your parts. Consequently, the chips accumulate in the cut path and should be removed to prevent bit breakage. Low helix bits require slower feed speeds than normal "high helix" bits.

Flutes: 3 Low Helix bits perform a more lateral movement with less upward or downward motion resulting in a smoother finish on single layer materials. These bits are a better choice for hard plastics such as acrylic and phenolic. Down cut endmills shear in a downward direction causing the uppermost layer of the material to be pressed down against the material just below it. This motion leaves a perfectly clean top surface edge. A concentration of wood chips in the work path will occur. Hose away excess wood chips to prevent bit breakage.

I fell into making cabbage boards by chance, when my son-in-law loved the coasters, I laser engraved for him and asked about a cribbage board. We have a CNC machine that has a spindle, and I decided to give that a whirl to make one for him as a special present. Little did I know, the bit type and shape plays a huge role in the quality of the product as well as protecting your machine. I needed something that would work for pulling chips out of the cut, and not overheat and potentially cause a fire when drilling dozens of holes. This is a very nice bit and I could see it used in multiple applications, but the drilling of the holes in the cribbage board was my main purpose. It has definitely met and exceeded my expectations.

I recently switched to the Compression Spiral Router Bit for my CNC, and the results on hard woods are phenomenal. The cuts are incredibly clean, with zero splintering, and the bit's durability is impressive. Even after numerous projects, it retains its sharpness, and the reduced vibrations offer unmatched precision. It's a solid upgrade from my usual Amana bits, and I couldn't be happier with the performance. This tool is now a non-negotiable part of my setup. Two thumbs up!

The corn mill bits work great from wood to mild steel, on a router or milling machine the flat and ball end mills work about fine for soft materials.
On the outer edge of each flute of the 2-flute mills, there is a continuous band of unground steel, which should taper inward- this causes the tool to rub slightly. There is visible variation in the depth of the grinding, causing the unground section to be sized differently along the bit, and even between multiple bit there is a visible difference. I did find two ball end mills that had good edges near the bottom, which I'm pleased with, I just have a hard time understanding how you get so much variation on such a small scale.
You get what you pay for, and for what you pay for this is a decent set.
